CMCOAG: SMRC RRRC Waste Composting Facility Odour

The CMCOAG was formed by concerned residents who are suffering from the Odour coming From the SMRC's RRRC Waste Composting Facility.

The SMRC - Southern Metropolitan Regional Council - have spent $70 million on a plant that continues to emit a chemical filled odour. Residents, especially in Leeming and Willetton, experience this odour on an ongoing basis.

The CMCOAG have received many complaints in regards to the odour and it's affects of residents health.

Some of the symptoms include:

blood noses
severe migraines
chest pains and breathing difficulty
dizzy spells
rashes
burning eyes
cagging and coughing
pets are suffering from allergies including skin and breathing problems

Residents are not able to enjoy their homes:

Not being able to sleep for days on end due to the odour in their homes - which makes them cough and gag (with some experiencing many of the above symptoms nearly everytime the odour occurs)

Not being able to use their back yards
Not being able to walk the dogs or exercise outdoors
Not able to have visitors over - as no one wants to come to their homes

The SMRC continue to claim that they are saving green house gases however this is highly questionable:
a. a large majority of their waste goes to landfill anyway
b. their power bills are massive - according to the SMRC’S own figures for November 2OO6 the power bill alone for the Waste Composting Facility was $156,956!
c. and obviously the compounds within the odour that is being emitted into our suburbs is hardly environmentally friendly
